Drug intelligence / Profile preview
Rottapharm Biotech is developing a proprietary gene therapy platform for the treatment of osteoarthritis (OA). This platform utilizes adeno-associated virus (AAV) vectors for intra-articular delivery to restore the physiological expression of proteins that are dysregulated in osteoarthritic joint tissue. By targeting specific OA phenotypes and optimizing transgene sequences, the therapy aims to provide long-term, site-specific therapeutic effects directly within the diseased joint while minimizing systemic exposure. The program is currently in preclinical development and focuses on increasing the natural tropism of AAV towards joint tissues and optimizing transgene sequences to improve clinical translation.
