routine schedule immunisations-University of Oxford-invasive meningococcal disease refers to the meningococcal serogroup C (MenC) conjugate vaccine regimens evaluated in the MALTA (MenC Vaccine Schedules and Injection Site Study in Infants) clinical trial conducted by the University of Oxford. The study assessed the induction of immune memory and the immunogenicity of different vaccination schedules in healthy infants, comparing priming with zero, one, or two doses of MenC-CRM197 (where CRM197 is a non-toxic mutant diphtheria toxoid) or a single dose of MenC-tetanus toxoid (MenC-TT) conjugate vaccine. All participants received a booster dose of the Hib-MenC-TT combination vaccine (Menitorix) at 12 months of age. These biologics work by presenting the capsular polysaccharide of Neisseria meningitidis serogroup C (and Haemophilus influenzae type b in the booster) to the immune system in a conjugate form, which converts the T-cell independent polysaccharide into a T-cell dependent antigen, thereby inducing high-affinity antibodies and long-term immunological memory. The trial also investigated whether administering routine vaccines in consistent versus alternating limbs affected the immune response to concurrent immunizations.
