Overview
Rouvax + RTS,S refers to the co-administration of the Rouvax measles vaccine and the GSK 257049 (RTS,S) malaria vaccine. Rouvax is a live-attenuated vaccine containing the Schwarz strain of the measles virus, originally developed by Aventis Pasteur (now Sanofi). GSK 257049, also known as RTS,S, is a recombinant protein vaccine developed by GSK that targets the circumsporozoite protein (CSP) of Plasmodium falciparum. This combination was studied in Phase 2 clinical trials to evaluate the safety and immunogenicity of integrating the malaria vaccine into the Expanded Program on Immunization (EPI) for infants, specifically assessing whether co-administration with the measles vaccine (typically given at 9 months of age) affects the immune response to either vaccine. RTS,S is formulated with a proprietary adjuvant system (AS01 or AS02) to enhance the immune response.
