Overview

BC 007 (rovunaptabin) is a synthetic DNA-based aptamer, specifically a 15-nucleotide single-stranded oligonucleotide, designed to bind and neutralize functional autoantibodies against G protein-coupled receptors (GPCRs). Its mechanism of action involves the direct binding and neutralization of pathogenic GPCR autoantibodies (GPCR-AAbs), which are implicated in diseases such as dilated cardiomyopathy, chronic heart failure, and post-acute COVID-19 syndrome. The drug forms a unique three-dimensional structure that enables it to wrap around its target antibodies. Developed by Berlin Cures, BC 007 has demonstrated favorable safety and tolerability profiles in early clinical trials. It is administered intravenously but can also be formulated for inhalation or nasal spray due to its water solubility. In addition to its primary role as an autoantibody inhibitor, it has shown anticoagulant effects and potential antiviral activity by inhibiting virus internalization and replication[1][2][3][5][6][8].
