Rowachol is an oral pharmaceutical preparation composed of a mixture of monoterpenes, including pinene, camphene, cineole, menthone, menthol, and borneol in olive oil. It is primarily indicated for the treatment of hepato-biliary disorders such as cholelithiasis (gallstones), cholecystitis (gallbladder inflammation), cholangitis (bile duct inflammation), bile duct dyskinesia, and other inflammatory hepatic conditions[1][5][6]. The drug acts by increasing biliary secretion (choleresis), relieving spasm of the bile ducts, enhancing metabolic liver function by reducing biliary stasis, and inhibiting HMG-CoA reductase to reduce endogenous cholesterol production. This mechanism helps maintain bile above saturation level with respect to cholesterol—facilitating gallstone dissolution and preventing new stone formation[2][6][8]. Rowachol also supports insulin production and may be used as supportive therapy in mild diabetes[5][6].
