RP701 is a preclinical-stage small molecule candidate developed by RESprotect for the treatment of cancer. It specifically targets Heat Shock Protein 27 (Hsp27), also known as Heat shock protein beta-1 (HSPB1), which is a molecular chaperone involved in protein folding, cell survival, and the inhibition of apoptosis. Hsp27 is frequently overexpressed in various cancers, where it contributes to tumor progression and resistance to chemotherapy and radiotherapy. By inhibiting Hsp27, RP701 is designed to sensitize cancer cells to treatment and overcome resistance mechanisms, potentially improving outcomes for patients with refractory malignancies.
