Overview

rPA102 is a recombinant protective antigen (rPA) protein-based anthrax vaccine candidate developed for the prevention of disease caused by Bacillus anthracis. Unlike traditional anthrax vaccines derived from culture filtrates, rPA102 consists of a purified recombinant form of the protective antigen (PA), which is one of the key components required for Bacillus anthracis toxicity. The vaccine works by inducing an immune response that generates antibodies against PA, thereby neutralizing the activities of lethal and edema toxins produced by B. anthracis. Clinical trials demonstrated that rPA102 was well tolerated and immunogenic in healthy adults, with antibody titers increasing after each dose administered intramuscularly. The product was initially developed by VaxGen and later associated with Diadexus but did not reach regulatory approval[4][5][6][7][8].
