RPI-78M is an investigational biological drug derived from alpha-cobratoxin (a neurotoxin found in cobra venom) that has been chemically detoxified for therapeutic use. It contains anticholinergic peptides that act as antagonists of nicotinic acetylcholine receptors (nAChRs), blocking their activity. This mechanism is thought to modulate nerve signaling and immune responses relevant to autoimmune and neuromuscular disorders. RPI-78M is being developed primarily for multiple sclerosis (MS), but has also been investigated in adrenomyeloneuropathy (AMN), amyotrophic lateral sclerosis (ALS), myasthenia gravis, muscular dystrophy, rheumatoid arthritis, herpes simplex virus infections, and herpes zoster. The drug demonstrates low toxicity and can be administered orally or via other routes[1][2][4][5][6][8].
