rQIV-adjuvanted is an experimental influenza vaccine candidate developed by CSL Seqirus. It combines a recombinant quadrivalent influenza vaccine (rQIV), produced using a baculovirus expression system in insect cells, with the proprietary MF59 oil-in-water emulsion adjuvant. The recombinant technology allows for the production of hemagglutinin (HA) proteins that exactly match the WHO-recommended seasonal strains without the risk of egg-adaptive mutations, while the MF59 adjuvant is intended to enhance the immune response, particularly in older adults who may have immunosenescence. The vaccine targets four seasonal influenza strains: two A strains (H1N1 and H3N2) and two B strains (Victoria and Yamagata lineages). It is currently being evaluated in clinical trials to compare its safety and immunogenicity against licensed cell-based and egg-based vaccines.
