Overview

RRV(GALV)-GFP is a retroviral replicating vector (RRV) pseudotyped with the envelope protein of the Gibbon Ape Leukemia Virus (GALV) and engineered to express Green Fluorescent Protein (GFP). Developed by researchers at the University of California, San Francisco, this vector is primarily used as a reporter and control in preclinical studies for high-grade glioma. Unlike standard amphotropic RRVs like Toca 511, which utilize the Pit-1 (SLC20A1) receptor, the GALV-pseudotyped vector enters cells via the Pit-2 (SLC20A2) receptor. This alternative entry mechanism allows for the infection of a broader range of cancer cells and facilitates combinatorial gene therapy strategies. In experimental models, RRV(GALV)-GFP has demonstrated efficient replication and stable transgene expression in both established and primary human glioblastoma cells.
