rSh28GST is a recombinant protein vaccine candidate composed of the 28-kDa glutathione S-transferase (GST) enzyme from *Schistosoma haematobium*, produced in *Saccharomyces cerevisiae*. It is designed as a therapeutic and prophylactic vaccine for urinary schistosomiasis. The mechanism involves inducing a Th2-type immune response with antibodies that inhibit the enzymatic activity of the parasite's GST, potentially reducing worm fecundity and egg viability. Clinical trials have shown it to be immunogenic and well-tolerated but efficacy endpoints in phase 3 trials were not met. The product is also known as Bilhvax when formulated with Alhydrogel (aluminum hydroxide) adjuvant[1][2][5][7][8].
