RSO-023 is a small molecule inhibitor targeting Peroxiredoxin 3 (PRX3), currently in IND-enabling studies for the treatment of solid tumors. Developed by RS Oncology, the drug follows the company's lead candidate, RSO-021, in leveraging the PRX3 pathway to induce mitochondrial oxidative stress. PRX3 is a mitochondrial-specific antioxidant enzyme that regulates reactive oxygen species (ROS) levels; by inhibiting PRX3, RSO-023 promotes the accumulation of mitochondrial ROS, leading to irreversible oxidative damage and apoptosis in malignant cells. This approach specifically targets the metabolic vulnerabilities of cancer cells that overexpress PRX3 to survive high oxidative environments.
