RSVΔG (also known as IT-RSVΔG) is an intranasal, live-attenuated recombinant respiratory syncytial virus (RSV) vaccine developed by Intravacc. The vaccine is engineered using reverse genetics to lack the G attachment glycoprotein, which is responsible for viral binding to host cells. Due to the deletion of the G protein, the virus is highly attenuated, exhibiting severely impaired binding and reduced infectivity while remaining capable of activating mucosal and systemic immune responses, primarily targeting the conserved RSV fusion (F) glycoprotein. In a first-in-human Phase I clinical trial (NTR7173 / EudraCT 2016-002437-30) in healthy adults, the vaccine was shown to be safe, well-tolerated, and sufficiently attenuated, with no infectious virus detected in nasal wash samples, though neutralizing antibody induction was limited in the pre-existing seropositive adult cohort. It is being developed for the prevention of RSV infection in pediatric populations, particularly infants and young children.
