RSV 276 is a recombinant live-attenuated respiratory syncytial virus (RSV) vaccine candidate developed by the National Institute of Allergy and Infectious Diseases (NIAID). It is designed for intranasal administration as nose drops, specifically targeting RSV-seronegative infants and children aged 6 to 24 months. The vaccine is engineered to be attenuated while remaining immunogenic, aiming to stimulate a protective immune response that mimics natural infection without causing severe disease. In Phase I/II clinical trials, RSV 276 demonstrated high infectivity and the ability to prime for strong anamnestic responses upon subsequent exposure. While generally well-tolerated, clinical observations noted an increased frequency of mild cough associated with this specific candidate compared to other live-attenuated RSV vaccines.
