Overview

RSV A Memphis 37 (M37) is a low-passage clinical isolate of respiratory syncytial virus subtype A, utilized primarily as a viral challenge agent in controlled human infection models (CHIM). Originally isolated from a 4-month-old infant and manufactured under cGMP standards, it is used to deliberately infect healthy volunteers via intranasal inoculation. This model allows researchers, such as those at Imperial College London in the INFLAMMAGE study, to investigate immune responses and disease progression in a controlled environment, particularly in specific populations like the elderly. It serves as a critical research tool for evaluating the efficacy of novel RSV vaccines and antiviral therapeutics before large-scale clinical trials.
