RSV cps2 is a recombinant live-attenuated vaccine candidate developed for the prevention of respiratory syncytial virus (RSV) infection, primarily in infants and young children. It was engineered to improve genetic stability and attenuation compared to earlier candidates by incorporating multiple independently attenuating mutations, including temperature-sensitive and cold-passaged elements as well as a deletion in the SH gene. These modifications reduce viral replication at higher temperatures (such as those found in the lower respiratory tract), enhancing safety while maintaining immunogenicity. The vaccine is designed to stimulate an immune response against RSV without causing disease, thereby providing protection against subsequent natural infection[5][7][2]. Clinical studies have shown that it is well-tolerated and immunogenic in seronegative infants and children[2][5].
