Overview

The Respiratory Syncytial Virus (RSV) F antigen, also known as the RSV fusion (F) glycoprotein, is a surface protein of the Respiratory Syncytial Virus. It is a primary target for neutralizing antibodies and exists in both pre-fusion and post-fusion conformations. This protein is a critical component in the development of RSV vaccines, where it is used to elicit a protective immune response against RSV infection. Vaccines containing the RSV F antigen aim to induce robust antibody responses, including neutralizing antibodies, to prevent lower respiratory tract infections caused by RSV, particularly in vulnerable populations such as infants and older adults.
