Drug intelligence / Profile preview
Protein subunit vaccine composed of the **respiratory syncytial virus (RSV) fusion (F) protein in its pre-fusion (preF) conformation** combined with the **MF59 oil-in-water emulsion adjuvant**. This combination is developed to enhance both systemic and mucosal immunity against RSV. The MF59 adjuvant increases the immunogenicity of the otherwise weakly immunogenic RSV F subunit by promoting robust systemic neutralizing antibody production (mainly IgG) and, when administered intranasally, boosting mucosal IgA responses and tissue-resident memory T cells. Intramuscular administration mainly induces systemic immunity, while combined or intranasal administration induces both systemic and mucosal immune responses. MF59 is a squalene-based adjuvant widely used to amplify immune responses for protein subunit vaccines[1][2].
