The RSV F vaccine + aluminum phosphate is a recombinant respiratory syncytial virus (RSV) fusion (F) protein nanoparticle vaccine formulated with an aluminum phosphate adjuvant. The vaccine targets the conserved F glycoprotein on the RSV surface, which mediates viral fusion with host cell membranes, aiming to elicit a strong immune response and provide protection against RSV infection. The aluminum phosphate acts as an adjuvant to enhance immunogenicity, leading to higher anti-F immunoglobulin G (IgG) antibodies and neutralizing antibodies compared to non-adjuvanted formulations. It has been primarily developed as a maternal immunization strategy, administered intramuscularly to women of childbearing age, to confer passive immunity to infants through transplacental antibody transfer. Clinical trials indicate the combination is well tolerated, immunogenic, and reduces RSV infection rates, though it has not met all efficacy endpoints in large phase 3 studies.
