Drug intelligence / Profile preview
Novavax's RSV F vaccine with adjuvant, also known as ResVax, is a recombinant nanoparticle vaccine designed to prevent Respiratory Syncytial Virus (RSV) infection. It targets the RSV fusion (F) protein and includes an adjuvant, such as aluminum phosphate or polysorbate 80, to enhance the immune response. The vaccine was primarily developed for maternal immunization, aiming to protect infants from medically-significant RSV lower respiratory tract infection by transferring antibodies from vaccinated pregnant women to their newborns. While it showed some efficacy in reducing severe outcomes in infants, it did not meet its primary efficacy endpoint in a pivotal Phase 3 trial for this indication. Novavax also investigated this vaccine for older adults, but those Phase 3 trials were terminated due to a failure to meet efficacy objectives.
