Drug intelligence / Profile preview
The RSV F vaccine with aluminum phosphate adjuvant is an investigational recombinant protein nanoparticle vaccine developed by Novavax for the prevention of respiratory syncytial virus (RSV) infection. The vaccine is composed of a purified, near-full-length RSV fusion (F) glycoprotein that forms stable protein-detergent nanoparticles, formulated with aluminum phosphate (AdjuPhos) as an adjuvant to enhance immunogenicity. It targets the RSV F protein, a critical surface glycoprotein that mediates viral attachment and membrane fusion. The vaccine was evaluated in multiple clinical settings, including older adults and maternal immunization (under the brand name ResVax). Although Phase 2 studies in older adults demonstrated robust antibody responses and a potential reduction in COPD-related hospitalizations, the vaccine failed to meet its primary efficacy endpoints in a large Phase 3 trial (Resolve) in older adults and a Phase 3 trial (Prepare) for maternal immunization.
