Overview

RSV MEDI ΔM2-2 is a live-attenuated respiratory syncytial virus (RSV) vaccine candidate developed through collaboration between the Laboratory of Infectious Diseases at NIAID/NIH and MedImmune. The vaccine features a deletion of the RSV M2-2 open reading frame (ORF), which results in decreased viral RNA replication while increasing antigen expression compared to previous live-attenuated RSV vaccine candidates. This unique modification 'de-links' virus replication and antibody response, priming for a potent anamnestic response following natural RSV infection. The vaccine is designed to prevent RSV infections, particularly in infants and young children at high risk for severe disease.
