RT-117 is an investigational oral biologic product being developed for the treatment of hemophilia through a collaboration between Rani Therapeutics and Chugai Pharmaceutical. The product combines Chugai's proprietary monoclonal antibody for hemophilia with Rani's RaniPill HC (High Capacity) oral delivery technology. The RaniPill HC is a robotic capsule designed to deliver large-molecule biologics that would otherwise require subcutaneous or intravenous injection. Upon ingestion, the capsule navigates to the small intestine where it deploys a micro-injector to deliver the therapeutic antibody directly into the intestinal wall, bypassing gastric degradation and enabling systemic absorption. The antibody component is designed to restore the blood coagulation cascade, likely by mimicking the function of Factor VIII to bridge Factors IXa and X. This oral delivery approach aims to significantly reduce the treatment burden for hemophilia patients by providing a convenient alternative to frequent injections.
