Overview

RT-200 is an investigational, single-dose, intravenous adeno-associated virus (AAV)-based gene therapy that delivers the human urocortin 2 (UCN2) gene. Developed by Renova Therapeutics, it is designed to treat type 2 diabetes mellitus and related metabolic disorders by increasing insulin sensitivity and glucose disposal, normalizing blood glucose levels, and reducing fatty infiltration of the liver. Preclinical studies have shown that RT-200 can provide long-lasting improvements in glucose homeostasis and may also prevent the onset of type 2 diabetes in animal models. The therapy targets cells primarily in the liver through paracrine activity of expressed peptides following a one-time IV injection[1][6][8].
