RTKi-MPP is an experimental topical ophthalmic formulation in which a small‑molecule receptor tyrosine kinase inhibitor targeting the vascular endothelial growth factor (VEGF) pathway is incorporated into Kala Pharmaceuticals’ mucus-penetrating particle (MPP) nanoparticle platform to enhance delivery to the posterior segment of the eye.[2][7][10][15] The MPP technology increases drug residence time at the ocular surface and penetration to the retina and choroid, yielding substantially higher retinal exposure than non-MPP formulations in animal models, and is being explored for indications such as neovascular (wet) age-related macular degeneration and other posterior segment diseases driven by VEGF signaling.[2][7][9][10][15]
