Drug intelligence / Profile preview
RTP-008 is a novel ophthalmic drug-device combination developed by Raytone Biotech (Zhejiang Ruitong Biotechnology) for the treatment of moderate-to-severe dry eye disease (DED). It consists of a bioabsorbable hydrogel-based punctal plug that is inserted into the lacrimal canaliculus. The device utilizes the proprietary iSus® platform to provide sustained local delivery of tacrolimus, a potent calcineurin inhibitor and immunosuppressant, while simultaneously providing physical tear retention through punctal occlusion. This dual mechanism aims to suppress ocular surface inflammation and improve tear film stability over several months with a single administration. As of August 2025, the candidate has entered clinical trials.
