Overview

RTP-026 is a synthetic peptide drug that mimics the action of the endogenous human protein Annexin A1. It is designed to promote resolution of inflammation and tissue repair, particularly in cardiovascular settings. Mechanistically, RTP-026 selectively activates the formyl-peptide receptor type 2 (FPR2), a G-protein coupled receptor expressed on leukocytes. This activation regulates neutrophil and monocyte recruitment to injured tissue, promotes neutrophil apoptosis (limiting collateral tissue damage), enhances efferocytosis (removal of apoptotic cells), and induces macrophage polarization toward a pro-resolving phenotype. These effects collectively contribute to reduced infarct size and improved healing following myocardial infarction. The drug was developed by ResoTher Pharma in collaboration with Queen Mary University of London’s William Harvey Research Institute[3][5][6]. As of 2024, it is being evaluated in Phase IIa clinical trials for ST-elevation myocardial infarction (STEMI)[3][7].
