Overview

RTX-GRT7039 is an investigational self-amplifying mRNA (samRNA) vaccine candidate developed by Gritstone bio in collaboration with Gilead Sciences for the treatment of HIV-1 infection. As part of a functional cure strategy, RTX-GRT7039 is designed to deliver a diverse set of HIV-1 antigens to the immune system, leveraging Gritstone's samRNA platform to trigger robust and sustained T-cell responses, particularly CD8+ cytotoxic T lymphocytes. The vaccine is typically utilized in a heterologous prime-boost regimen, often following a chimpanzee adenovirus (ChAd) vector prime, to enhance the breadth and potency of the immune response against conserved viral regions. The goal of this approach is to enable the immune system to identify and eliminate HIV-infected cells in patients who are virally suppressed on antiretroviral therapy (ART).
