Overview

RU-41740 is an **immunomodulating agent** of organic origin extracted from *Klebsiella pneumoniae*. It is primarily composed of carbohydrates with a minor protein portion. The active principle consists of two repetitive glycoprotein subunits: **P1 (95 kD)** from the bacterial capsule and **F1 (350 kD)** from the external bacterial membrane[4]. RU-41740 acts by enhancing host immune defenses, particularly by boosting phagocytosis and candidacidal activity of monocytes, and modulating polymorphonuclear neutrophil functions[3][5]. It is used **preventively against recurrent respiratory infections** in both adults and children and has demonstrated immunological safety in preclinical and clinical studies[1][3]. Orally administered RU-41740 crosses the intestinal wall and rapidly enters the lymphatic system[4].
