Overview

RU-505 is a **small molecule inhibitor** of the interaction between amyloid-beta (Aβ), particularly Aβ42, and fibrinogen, preventing the formation of abnormal, degradation-resistant blood clots in the brain. Developed by **Dr. Sidney Strickland's team at Rockefeller University** with funding from the **Alzheimer's Drug Discovery Foundation**, it restores normal fibrin clot structure and degradation in vitro, reduces cerebral inflammation, improves blood flow, and enhances memory performance in Alzheimer's disease mouse models without interfering with normal clotting. The compound (CAS 1314206-29-5, C28H32FN5O, MW 473.58) crosses the blood-brain barrier effectively, with an IC50 of 2.72 μM for Aβ42-fibrinogen inhibition, and is available for research use.[1][2][3][4][5][11][17]
