Overview

RU 58642 is a non-steroidal androgen receptor antagonist that was developed by Sanofi (formerly Roussel-Uclaf and Aventis) for the treatment of prostate cancer. As an arylacenamide derivative, it functions by competitively inhibiting the binding of androgens, such as testosterone and dihydrotestosterone, to the androgen receptor, thereby blocking the signaling pathways that drive the growth of prostate cancer cells. The drug was specifically investigated in Phase II clinical trials for patients with non-metastatic androgen-independent (castration-resistant) prostate cancer, where it was evaluated at doses of 75 mg and 125 mg. However, development of RU 58642 was ultimately discontinued.
