Overview

Ruanjian Qingmai (RJQM) is a traditional Chinese medicine (TCM) formulation primarily used in the form of granules. It is derived from a classic formula developed by Professor Jiuyi Xi and has been widely used for over three decades in China to treat peripheral arterial disease (PAD), particularly cases characterized by blood vessel stasis and obstruction. The formulation has also shown efficacy in promoting wound healing, especially in diabetic ulcers, by enhancing angiogenesis and granulation tissue formation. Mechanistically, RJQM appears to act through multiple pathways including upregulation of CYP7A1 mRNA expression for lipid metabolism reprogramming, modulation of the PI3K-Akt-VEGF signaling pathway to promote vascular endothelial growth factor-mediated angiogenesis, and inhibition of inflammatory responses via the JAK2/STAT3 pathway. Clinical studies have demonstrated its benefit in improving ischemic symptoms such as intermittent claudication and increasing pain-free walking distance in PAD patients[2][5][7].
