Overview

Rubidium salt is a metal compound being investigated for its therapeutic potential in treating ulcerative colitis, a chronic inflammatory bowel disease. It works by modulating the intestinal flora, increasing the abundance of beneficial bacteria such as Lactobacillus and Bifidobacterium, while inhibiting harmful bacteria like Enterobacteriaceae and Escherichia coli. Additionally, it directly weakens pathogenic bacteria by reducing the expression of their virulence factors (e.g., fimH, invA, hilA) and virulence genes (e.g., acrA, ompR). These actions lead to an increase in short-chain fatty acids, improved intestinal barrier function, and a reduction in inflammatory markers, ultimately alleviating the symptoms of ulcerative colitis. The specific rubidium salt studied was purified from Minerals Containing Rubidium (MCR) from Guangxi Yuechengling.
