Drug intelligence / Profile preview
Liposomal 9-nitro-20 (S)-camptothecin (L9NC) is a liposomal formulation of rubitecan, a semi-synthetic derivative of camptothecin that acts as a DNA topoisomerase I inhibitor. Developed for administration via aerosolization, this formulation is designed to deliver high concentrations of the active drug directly to the lungs while minimizing systemic toxicity. Rubitecan stabilizes the covalent complex between DNA and topoisomerase I, leading to lethal double-strand DNA breaks during the S-phase of the cell cycle. This aerosolized liposomal version was primarily investigated by the University of New Mexico and the Stehlin Foundation for Cancer Research for the treatment of non-small cell lung cancer (NSCLC) and other pulmonary malignancies.
