Overview

Rubone is a synthetic chalcone analog and **miR-34a modulator** that upregulates miR-34a expression in cancer cells, particularly in hepatocellular carcinoma cells, including those with wild-type or mutated p53. By increasing miR-34a, rubone impacts downstream gene expression including **downregulation of Bcl-2**, leading to antiproliferative and pro-apoptotic effects in tumor cells. It is primarily used in research and has no approved therapeutic indications. Mechanistically, rubone’s effect is dependent on p53 status, serving as a small molecule modulator of microRNA expression[1][2][4][5].
