Rubus coreanus extract (RCE) is a natural product being investigated for its anticancer properties, particularly in combination with oxaliplatin for colorectal cancer. It functions by exerting a programmed death-1/programmed death-ligand 1 (PD-1/PD-L1) blockade, thereby enhancing T cell-mediated antitumor immunity. Studies have shown that RCE combined with oxaliplatin activates hPD-1 tumor-infiltrating CD8+ T cells, leading to increased levels of interleukin-2 (IL-2) and granzyme B (GrB), and effectively killing hPD-L1 MC38 colorectal cancer cells. This combination therapy has also been observed to reduce tumor growth and increase the infiltration and GrB production of CD8+ T cells in the tumor microenvironment in humanized PD-1/PD-L1-expressing mouse models, suggesting its potential to improve immune checkpoint blockade therapy when combined with standard chemotherapy regimens in colorectal cancer.
