Rucosopasem manganese (GC4711) is an investigational, highly selective small molecule that mimics the enzyme superoxide dismutase (SOD) and is bioavailable as a manganese complex. Its mechanism of action involves catalyzing the dismutation of superoxide radicals, converting them into hydrogen peroxide and molecular oxygen, thereby reducing oxidative stress caused by radiotherapy or chemoradiation. Rucosopasem manganese is developed as a next-generation dismutase mimetic, similar to avasopasem manganese (GC4419), and is under clinical development as a radioprotector primarily for the reduction of severe oral mucositis and other toxicities associated with radiation or chemoradiotherapy, particularly in cancer patients. The drug is being developed by Galera Therapeutics and is not currently approved for clinical use.
