Overview

This bacteriophage cocktail is an experimental therapeutic consisting of 3-4 virulent phages for each targeted bacterial species. It is being evaluated as an adjunct to standard antibiotic therapy for the treatment of infective endocarditis (IE). The cocktail is designed to target a broad range of pathogens commonly associated with IE, including *Staphylococcus spp.*, *Streptococcus spp.*, *Enterococcus spp.*, and several Gram-negative "Non-HACEK" organisms like *E. coli* and *P. aeruginosa*. By utilizing the natural lytic cycle of bacteriophages, the treatment aims to eradicate bacteria, including those that are multi-drug resistant or protected within biofilms on heart valves. The therapy is currently being investigated in a Phase 3 clinical trial sponsored by the University Clinical Hospital named after V.V. Vinogradov, a branch of the RUDN University.
