Drug intelligence / Profile preview
**Rusfertide** is a synthetic, first-in-class hepcidin-mimetic peptide that binds the iron exporter ferroportin and promotes its internalization and degradation, restricting iron export into plasma and reducing iron availability for erythropoiesis. It is administered by once-weekly subcutaneous injection and is approved in the United States as **Mimrylo** for treatment of erythrocytosis in adults with polycythemia vera. Rusfertide was discovered by Protagonist Therapeutics and is partnered with Takeda.
