Overview

RUTI is a therapeutic vaccine developed by Archivel Farma, composed of detoxified fragments of *Mycobacterium tuberculosis* (MTB) bacilli cultured under stress conditions to express antigens associated with latency, and encapsulated in liposomes. It is designed to stimulate a broad Th1/Th17 polyantigenic immune response against both active and dormant bacilli, serving as an adjunct to standard antibiotic therapy for tuberculosis (TB), including drug-sensitive, multidrug-resistant (MDR-TB), and latent TB infections. Beyond its primary indication in TB, RUTI is being investigated for its ability to induce "trained immunity"—an epigenetic reprogramming of innate immune cells—to provide non-specific protection against viral infections like SARS-CoV-2 and to enhance the systemic and mucosal immunological response in patients with high-risk non-muscle-invasive bladder cancer (NMIBC) treated with intravesical BCG.
