Ruzotolimod (RO7020531) is an orally active small molecule prodrug that acts as a toll-like receptor 7 (TLR7) agonist. It is designed to stimulate innate immune responses by activating TLR7, leading to the production of type I interferons and other cytokines. Ruzotolimod is being developed primarily for the treatment of chronic hepatitis B virus (HBV) infection, with the goal of enhancing antiviral immune activity and potentially achieving functional cure in combination with other therapies. The drug was developed by Hoffmann-La Roche and has undergone Phase 1 and Phase 2 clinical trials in both healthy volunteers and patients with chronic HBV infection[1][2][3][4][5][8].
