RV-8451 is an investigational, oral, non-peptide small molecule agonist of the glucagon-like peptide-1 (GLP-1) receptor being developed by Rivus Pharmaceuticals for the treatment of obesity. Unlike current injectable peptide-based GLP-1 therapies, RV-8451 is designed as a muscle-preserving agent to address the significant loss of lean mass often associated with rapid weight loss. By targeting the GLP-1 receptor through a small molecule modality, it aims to provide a more convenient oral dosing regimen while maintaining metabolic benefits.
