rV-CEA is a recombinant vector vaccine and therapeutic cancer vaccine that utilizes a vaccinia virus engineered to express the human carcinoembryonic antigen (CEA). Its primary mechanism is to induce an immune response against CEA, a tumor-associated antigen overexpressed in various cancers, particularly colorectal cancer. The vaccine aims to stimulate cytotoxic T lymphocyte-mediated immunity specifically targeting CEA-expressing tumor cells. Preclinical studies have shown that immunization with rV-CEA can inhibit the growth of CEA-positive tumors and elicit both mucosal and systemic anti-CEA immune responses. The drug was initially developed by the National Cancer Institute for use in neoplasms, especially solid tumors[1][3][4].
