Drug intelligence / Profile preview
RV16UB is a standardized preparation of human rhinovirus 16 (HRV-16) developed by the U-BIOPRED (Unbiased Biomarkers for the Prediction of Respiratory Disease Outcomes) consortium. It is utilized as a clinical challenge agent to induce controlled upper respiratory tract infections and asthma exacerbations in research settings. By administering RV16UB intranasally, researchers can study the longitudinal biomarker profiles and "handprints" (high-dimensionality phenotypes) of asthma in both healthy volunteers and asthmatic patients. This allows for the evaluation of safety, tolerability, and the underlying biological mechanisms of viral-induced respiratory distress.
