Overview

RV3-BB is a live attenuated human neonatal rotavirus vaccine developed from the naturally occurring human neonatal rotavirus strain RV3 (G3P[6]), originally identified in healthy newborns. The vaccine is designed to be administered either as a birth dose (neonatal schedule) or starting at 6–8 weeks of age (infant schedule). It aims to provide early protection against severe rotavirus gastroenteritis by leveraging the natural adaptation of the strain to replicate in the newborn gut, even in the presence of maternal antibodies and breastfeeding. Clinical trials have shown that three doses of RV3-BB are well tolerated, immunogenic, and efficacious for preventing severe rotavirus gastroenteritis in infants. The primary mechanism is immunostimulation against rotavirus infection[1][2][4][6].
