RVB-003 is a genetically engineered protein therapeutic developed by ResVita Bio for the treatment of Netherton syndrome, a rare and life-threatening genetic skin disorder. The drug utilizes a novel continuous protein therapy platform that employs genetically engineered probiotic bacteria applied topically to the skin. These bacteria temporarily colonize the skin and continuously release therapeutic proteins—specifically LEKTI (a serine protease inhibitor)—to restore the integrity of the skin barrier by inhibiting uncontrolled protease activity caused by SPINK5 gene mutations. This approach aims to provide sustained delivery of therapy directly at the site of disease, potentially offering improved safety and efficacy over traditional treatments.
