rVSVΔG-Env-HIV is a recombinant vesicular stomatitis virus (rVSV)-based vaccine candidate developed by the International AIDS Vaccine Initiative (IAVI) for the prevention of HIV-1 infection. The vaccine utilizes a viral vector platform where the native glycoprotein (G) of the VSV is deleted (ΔG) and replaced with the HIV-1 envelope (Env) protein. This modification allows the vector to express the HIV-1 Env protein on its surface, which is intended to stimulate both humoral (antibody) and cell-mediated (T-cell) immune responses against the virus. This program leverages the same underlying rVSV technology used in the development of vaccines for Ebola, Lassa fever, and Marburg virus. The platform was originally developed by Profectus BioSciences before being transitioned to IAVI.
