Drug intelligence / Profile preview
rVSV-BDBV-GP is an investigational monovalent vaccine candidate being developed by Hilleman Laboratories in collaboration with the International AIDS Vaccine Initiative (IAVI) and the Coalition for Epidemic Preparedness Innovations (CEPI) to protect against Bundibugyo virus disease (BVD). The vaccine utilizes a recombinant vesicular stomatitis virus (rVSV) vector platform—the same platform used in the licensed Zaire ebolavirus vaccine Ervebo—engineered to express the Bundibugyo ebolavirus envelope glycoprotein instead of the native VSV glycoprotein. This design trains the host immune system to recognize and neutralize the Bundibugyo virus. In 2026, amid a major Bundibugyo ebolavirus outbreak in the Democratic Republic of the Congo, CEPI awarded funding to Hilleman Laboratories to manufacture clinical trial doses of the vaccine, with technical advisory support from MSD.
