Overview

**rVSV-SUDV-GP** is a live-attenuated, replication-competent recombinant vesicular stomatitis virus (rVSV)-vectored vaccine engineered by replacing the VSV glycoprotein (G) gene with the glycoprotein (GP) gene from Sudan ebolavirus (SUDV), typically the Boneface or SEBOV strain. It elicits a potent humoral immune response, including SUDV GP-specific IgG antibodies, providing 100% protection against SUDV challenge in guinea pigs at doses as low as 2×10^3 PFU and demonstrating efficacy in non-human primates. Developed primarily by IAVI with BARDA funding, it is designed as a single-dose vaccine for preventing Sudan virus disease (SVD), an emerging filovirus infection, and has shown safety and immunogenicity in a completed phase 1 trial (NCT05724472).[1][2][5][7]
