Overview

RVT-1601 is an investigational inhaled formulation of cromolyn sodium (sodium cromoglycate) developed for treating chronic cough in patients with idiopathic pulmonary fibrosis (IPF). The drug is delivered directly to the lungs via a proprietary electronic nebulizer device called the PARI eFlow Closed System nebulizer. RVT-1601 functions as a mast cell stabilizer with pleiotropic immune modulating activity. While its exact mechanism for reducing chronic cough symptoms is not fully understood, it's believed to prevent or reduce damaging immune responses, such as inflammation, caused by mast cells that may contribute to coughing in IPF patients. The drug works by inhibiting inflammatory mediators that contribute to both cough and potentially the progression of fibrosis.
